Euromillions Lottery History

Welcome to the world of EuroMillions, the lottery that boasts it will ensure you with the lifestyle you’ve always wanted. And those claims are not empty, on the contrary. EuroMillions, one of the most popular lotteries in the world, had its first draw in 2004. It is played in 12 European countries, and the biggest jackpot win in EuroMillions lottery history, stands at incredible 190 million Euros.

That amount, which is also the biggest amount you can win playing EuroMillions today, has been won three times in the last 14 years. But, even the “smaller” jackpots can’t really be called that, since there is no amount smaller than 160 million Euros in the top ten biggest winnings in their lottery history.

EuroMillions is drawn in Paris every Tuesday and Friday. Players are required to guess seven numbers correctly if they are to win the grand prize. Each player chooses five numbers out of 50 and additional two “lucky star” numbers out of 12. The odds of winning the jackpot stand at 1:139 million, but there are also 12 more tiers of prizes, and the overall odds of winning are 1 in 13. Prizes are claimed in the countries the tickets were bought in, and the process of claiming is different in each country.

Aside from the jackpot, you could potentially win prizes for guessing the following combinations of numbers: 2, 2+1, 1+2,3, 3+1, 2+2, 4, 3+2, 4+1, 4+2, 5, and 5+1. There is a jackpot cap, which currently stands at the mentioned 190 million Euros, and it stays at that amount for four draws. If it is not drawn by then, it is rolled down and split between the players in the net prize tier. There are additional draws specific to certain countries, and there are a few general additional draws, like SuperDraws and EventDraws, whose main prizes stand at 100 and 130 million Euros.

The first big EuroMillions jackpot of over 115.4 million Euros was drawn in 2005. and went to Ireland. The biggest amount to date, 190 million Euros, was won in 2012, 2014 and 2017, and the statistics show that there have been more than 2,500,000,000 winners in all of their games in the previous 14 years.
